TO THE BLOOMFIELD, NEW JERSEY POLICE DEPARTMENT, YOU HAVE TO DO BETTER!
Today I was wrongfully ticketed by a Bloomfield Police Officer for being parked. Yeah, BEING PARKED. I was waiting in my car outside of a dollar store as my friend approached the vehicle. A security guard asked if I could move my car and I politely said, "Sir, my friend is coming right out. I'll move as soon as I can." He signaled a cop and soon after, he came and asked me to move. I started to drive away and suddenly he turned his sirens on, and pulled me over. He did not get out of his vehicle nor told me why I was getting pulled over. The encounter was becoming very humilitating. I took initiative to flash a police card that was given to me by a family member and my license. It is to my understanding that the presence of a Gold card should be honored. Unfortunately, he laughed at me the entire time. It was as if my anger fueled his excitement to humiliate me and abuse his authority.
I was disgusted. To see a Black man who I thought would protect me and be understanding do the complete opposite was disheartening. It is a tragedy to know that my friend and I, along with many other people who experience similar interactions are forced to comply with such injustices. This is complete unfair treatment and it is my duty to bring attention to these issues that repeatedly go unnoticed.
Just when we think were progressing, our own people knock us back.
